What is the Energy Performance Score?

The Energy Performance Score calculation is based on a home energy assessment performed by a certified EPS analyst that has been trained and qualified to conduct an EPS audit.

How is the Energy Score Calculated?

The energy score is based on a home's shape, size, insulation levels, air leakage, heating and cooling systems, major appliances, lighting, and hot water heating. Occupancy, behavior, indoor temperature, and regional weather are standardized to calculate normal energy use. A home’s actual energy use will vary with behavior, weather, and changes to the home.

Welcome oil-heated homeowners! Community Power Works can help you save thousands of dollars and live more comfortably all year long. Sign up today to schedule a home energy assessment, then work with a CPW contractor to determine which rebates apply to your home’s energy upgrade. If you achieve more than 30% energy savings you’ll receive $2,500 off your upgrade. Add the rebate for switching from oil to a high efficiency heating system, and you could save an additional $1,200. Include a $500 oil tank decommissioning rebate and you’re getting a total of $4,200 off the cost of upgrading your home.

For those homeowners who elect not to upgrade their heating system or to upgrade to a high efficiency oil system, Community Power Works will match existing utility weatherization rebates. (NOTE: Rebates applicable to non-heating measures (insulation, air sealing, windows, etc) and oil or propane-heated homes ONLY.)

Energy Incentives

Community Power Works incentives are ONLY available to Community Power Works participants and cover up to a maximum of 50% of the total project cost after taxes and before subtracting utility rebates.

Community Power Works Energy Savings Incentive

We want to pay you to save energy. Our-approved contractors will work with you to choose the best upgrade measures for your home, and then use those measures to determine your Energy Savings (%) with the Energy Performance Score (EPS) tool. This is the same tool that was used to calculate your initial EPS audit recommendations (see EPS description in left sidebar). The corresponding Energy Savings Incentive ($) will then be applied directly to your bid.

High Efficiency Heating Incentive

Heating with oil is more expensive than ever. To make the switch from pricey heating oil to natural gas or electric heat, Community Power Works will match the prevailing Seattle City Light or Puget Sound Energy rebates to switch to high efficiency electric or natural gas heating systems. If you upgrade your heating system and achieve over 30% energy savings, you could save up to $3,700 off the cost of your job!

Utility Rebates

Your CPW-approved contractor will bundle all applicable utility rebates with Community Power Works Energy Savings incentives. If your home is heated by gas, you are eligible for Puget Sound Energy weatherization rebates. If your home is heated by electricity, you are eligible for Seattle City Light rebates, which are ONLY available to Community Power Works participants.
